Staying strong in this perverse generation.

This topic is one which I wrote (superficially) my blog subscribers recently.

Endeavour to subscribe to the blog to receive Spirit-inspired messages.

Of a factual truth, the generation you and I are in is a perverse one and we must not bank on this fact to do as we so desire or conform to what the value system of this world wants; we must stay strong.

But, in as much as we want to stand strong in this comprised environment, we must understand that, we cannot do it in our own strength. It’s not a feat that we can achieve through the dictates of our carnal senses or self-assumptions.

We cannot achieve it by ourselves because, “by strength shall no man prevail.” (1st Samuel 2:9)

How do we know that, we are in a perverse generation?

We get answers from the words of our Lord.

For instance, see what Jesus said in Matthew 17:17:
“Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.”

He was admonishing His disciples in respect to their inability to heal a lunatic boy.

That verse is more than enough to convince us that the world we are in is not one that coincides with God; it is faithless and perverse.

Infact, Jesus had something to say about the owner of this world which tells us the incoherence that exists between the world’s standards and God’s standards.

Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.” John 14:30

But, we should understand that, in as much as the true nature of this world is evil, some of the world’s elements try to resemble the characteristics of God.

Read what Apostle Paul told Timothy:
“For men shall be…having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” 2nd Timothy 3:2-5

That is why you see some features of the world trying to have a resemblance to that of God.

This is where a great caution has to be sounded into our minds as Apostle Paul has charged: “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them.” 2nd Timothy 3:14

And, this would launch us into the real subject:

How we can stay strong in this perverse generation.

To furnish us with answers, I would refer to the last scripture quoted:
“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them” 2nd Timothy 3:14

Carefully read the scripture again.

“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learnt and hast been assured of…”

The question is this: “What have you learnt that you are assured of and, can remain steadfast in?”

This brings the first step: Don’t be ignorant about what God says and what the world is into.

If you want to stay strong in this perverse generation that we all are in, you have to be aware of what is going on— reading (and meditating) on the scriptures, seeking more of God in the secret place and getting exposed to true information that reveals what the schemes of the world are.

Getting acquainted with these information is necessary “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” 2nd Corinthians 2:11

Just in case you are brooding over what the secret place with God entails, read my blog post on the subject here.

The next thing I would tell you is this: Always seek God for His grace and mercy because there would be war.

Yes. War; although, it’s not necessarily a physical one but usually spiritual (and emotionally, sometimes, physical!).

Your determination to stay strong in this perverse generation is not what the Devil is excited about. He desperately craves that, you live your life in accordance with the perverseness of this world (no matter how little, he just wants you). But, because you have decided to stand out— to stay strong, you need God’s grace. Like I mentioned earlier, this feat is not what you can achieve on your own because, “it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.” (Romans 9:16)

We need the grace and mercy of God to survive this torrents. Yes, it’s torrents— war because we are striving to go against what we have been naturally conformed to— the flesh.

Please, understand that, I’m not trying to create an atmosphere of fear in you but, I have to tell you the truth— staying strong in this perverse generation is not easy. It is a battle, a spiritual one to be precise because there is a contention.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places .” Ephesians 6:12

We are in a warfare but by the grace of God which is sufficient for you and I, we would overcome.

The third thing I would be charge you in respect to this matter is that, you have to associate yourself with those of like minds.

One fact is this: The kind of company you keep determines to a large extent, the outcome of your life. I’m not exaggerating.

If you keep on with those of unlike minds, you’ll first look like a round peg in a square hole before you totally be like them.

Staying strong involves you associating with those who support and uphold your interest. This helps to strengthen your faith when it seems as though, you are lagging.

Truly, there’s so much joy when you can identify with those of like minds.

Meanwhile, you have to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16).

In simple terms, you have to extend the Word to others. And, you can do this effectively when the Holy Spirit leads you together with your testimony (of your salvation).

We cannot afford to stay strong alone without letting our light shine— our testimony.

Again, if we should ask, “Why do we need to stay strong? Why must we not conform to the world?”

It’s because you have a glorious future which you must not miss. So, you have to keep pressing on till you reach your goal.

Jesus actually knew that “In the world ye shall have tribulation” (John 16:33) but He adminishes you with His saying to the church in Philadelphia:
“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.” Revelation 3:11-12

So, child of God, be ready to face temptations and also open your mind to stand on the words of Christ. And, He is faithful to keep you till the very end.
