Our Father— God has good thoughts towards us. He means so much good for us.
And, one of ways by which we get to experience the good thoughts is through what we exhibit in our day to day activities— the manifestation of Himself in us— how we get to perform in our career, social, spiritual endeavors (just to mention a few) reveals to an extent, the works of God in our lives.
What we reveal to the outside world tells so much.
And, that’s so great.
Beyond the external manifestations, something more is needed.
Aside life’s hustle and bustle where you get to reflect Christ in between, there is something more.
It’s the secret place.
The secret place is that condition where you are separated away from the outside world, alone with God, seeking God on a personal note and receiving another (greater) dimension of God.
Why then, the secret place?
The secret place is one designed to separate you from the crowd— the outside world for the purpose of having an intent, concise and deep communion with God.
It’s just you and Him— God.
The reason for the secret place is to engage your spiritual senses in impartation which is usually not possible while you are “out”.
Your secret place is where you have to come to seek God in a new and different dimension.
You engage in spiritual exercise that transports your body, soul and spirit to realms above.
You get wiser in the secret place.
You’re get protected in the secret place.
You get God in the secret place.
The secret place gets you equipped for the “outside’s” trials.
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” 1st Corinthians 3:11-15
The foundations of gold, stones, wood, hay and stubble represents different kinds.
It’s the quality of your secret place that what determines your stance for delivery (to the”outside”).
If your stance (your secret place) is strong, you would deliver well but if not, you would suffer a loss— incompetence— shallowness of the secret place.
How do you come about the secret place?
Since the secret place is a personal one, you get it the way you feel.
It could be a section of the house where you lay on your back or walk round or even sit quietly just to get connected.
You have your secret place where you are away from the outside— no distractions.
What do I do in the secret place?
You commune with God via means that suits your spirit man—Bible reading, light worship, speaking in tongues, speaking in natural understanding (your own language), waiting on God for His impression.
Meanwhile, you don’t to all of the talking— allow Him (even though, it might come steady).
What do you expect from the secret place?
You get refreshed— imparted, knowledgeable, wiser, Spirit-filled.
You get all of these from God.
You realise that, the secret place with God is a vital requirement for attaining solid stance as a Christian.
There are times when we don’t get to be regular in the secret place— the hustle and bustle of life— the demanding job— the overwhelmingness of the day.
But, inspite of that, we must not be wanting in the secret place.
How then do we maintain the secret place?
1. Set your heart on the secret place.
The very first step to any form of growth or change is the involvement of the mind/heart.
If you unconsciously get involved in something, there’s every tendency for you not to return to such again.
So, if you want to maintain the secret place inspite of the hustle of life, set your heart— your consciousness on it because, “…where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Mathew 6:21)
2. Rely on the Holy Spirit for strength.
Without the Spirit’s help, you would achieve abstractly.
So, you have to pray that, the Holy Spirit helps to bring your consciousness to the fact that, irrespective of life’s hustle, you have to come back to the secret place.
Meanwhile, you need not the consciousness alone but, the strength to retreat to the secret place.
3. Tarry in the secret place.
As stated earlier, you don’t just rush into the secret place and hurry out again. If you do, you’ll not achieve so much.
The more you desire and stay in it, the more you get from God.
But, we often get to do little in the secret place and rush out almost immediately to the outside world in a bid to express “it”, and we find ourselves not doing “it” as expected.
So many Christians have rushed out from the secret place on hearing the first step. They’re either too excited or too emotional to express “it”.
They didn’t get to receive the next step.
It’s at the breaking point that they remember that, something is missing.
But, if you want to maintain the secret place— God’s presence, tarry there!
Wait on God till you receive from Him because, “…they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
4. Be accountable.
Accountability to God and your fellows (family, friends, prayer partners) would help to keep you in check whenever it seems as though, you are lagging behind.
Aside having accountable partners, you have to be subject to them by paying close attention and doing the right thing.
Do not suffer your secret place. It’s you and God!
